What is your Christmas Flavor?

Hollywood theme party sign

A question we are frequently asked at Lewis Events by organizations, companies, property owners, and others, is “What can we do about the dwindling attendance at our annual Christmas parties?” Our question back is “What do you do each year for the celebration?” “Pretty much the same thing”, they say. “Have some food, throw on some music, a few words from the CEO, and give out prizes.”

It’s time to think outside of the box and add some sizzle to your holiday parties. Change up the theme each year and put a slightly different twist on Christmas! The food, activities, decor, entertainment, and prizes can complement the theme. The themes can vary but can always reflect the spirit of the holiday. Each year the celebration will be a new and exciting experience for the guests.

A traditional theme might be Charles Dickens, Winter Wonderland, The North Pole, Breakfast with Santa, or Home for the Holidays.

Take guests on a holiday journey to a Far East Getaway, Spring in Europe, a Holiday Fiesta, or a Tropical Paradise.

Blast back in time to a Roaring Twenties Holiday, Swinging 40’s, Rocking 50’s, or Hopping 80’s. The list is endless . . . . Wild West Christmas, Hollywood Holiday, Surfing Santa, Celebrate Along Route 66, The Big Apple . . . Give us a call to discuss your holiday event wish list and we’ll help you make your wishes come true.

Trick Roping with the Dolphins

Lewis Events roping calf on Catalina Island dock.

A gorgeous fall day on the docks at Newport Harbor in Southern California. The trick ropes, microphones, cables, hats, boots, roping calf . . . . and wetsuits were loaded onto the boat. Next, we hopped aboard, sailed past the Balboa Pavillion, out of the harbor past the jetty, and were off to Avalon Bay on Catalina Island. Along the way, dolphins and seagulls accompanied us on our 26-mile journey. The dolphins seemed like they just wanted to have fun as they jumped in and out of the ship’s wake. After docking in Avalon, we boarded a speedboat that quickly whisked us to a private cove on the island. There is no road to our destination cove, so the people, food, supplies, and equipment could only be transported to the location by boat. Remote indeed!

Christy on boat to Catalina Island

We arrived at a beautiful, secluded cove, rolled up our sleeves, and got to work. The sound system was set up and tested followed by our tent and sleeping bags. Yes, our location was so remote, that we stayed in a tent right on the beach . . . . about ten feet from the water.

Lewis Event’s assignment was to provide a weekend of entertainment for the members and guests of a private organization, including trick roping, virtual calf roping, DJ and MC, and line dancing.

The tables are set and both Christy and Jay warm up before the guests arrive.

The guests did arrive and after a mouth-watering Western meal, they danced and roped for hours. Traditional and contemporary Western favorites were played along with some pop tunes to mix things up a bit. We entertained guests for two evening events and provided atmosphere entertainment during the daylight hours.

The beachfront event location was spectacular and the guests were a ton of fun. Our weekend soon came to an end, the bags and equipment were loaded and we made the journey back to the mainland.

Lewis Events will travel almost anywhere to make your dreams come to life. Even if it means we transport our equipment on a boat and stay in a tent. Contact us anytime to chat about how we can make your next adventure a huge success.

Octoberfest Arrives Early to Park City

Lewis Events had the pleasure of working with Summit Events DMC in bringing Octoberfest to life in Park City for a corporate client. So, instead of waiting until October, early September was when it was time to break out the the Alpenhorns, Brats, and Sauerkraut.

The Stein Eriksen Lodge is a beautiful location both indoors and out with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and Deer Valley Resort. We decorated the event space to create the Octoberfest atmosphere and complement the venue space.

Prior to dinner and presentations, guests primarily socialized with frequent challenges at the Hammerschlagen game. This unique contest is often played at Octoberfest celebrations where challengers use the tapered end of a hammer to see who can drive a nail into a large piece of wood with the fewest number of hammer strikes. Most guests had never experienced Hammerschlagen but enjoyed the experience.

“Wild West Experience” at St. Regis

St. Regis Hotel was the location of a willing group of guests from far and wide who gathered to meet friends and learn the ways of the old West. Delectable food was served, foot-stomping music was performed and folks jumped back in time to the days of the wide open frontier.

Lewis Events brought the adventure to life with virtual calf roping, gold panning, trick roping, and real-life Western heroes. Brave participants rolled up their sleeves and did their best to rope the cow before it ran off to the wide-open prairie.

Forty-niners heard the call of gold discovered in Park City and rushed to stake their claim. Miners ferociously panned for riches in the Wasatch range rivers and streams with the occasional cry of “Eureka” heard over the music drifting from the local saloon.

After an evening of roping, panning, and calf gathering, Park City has a whole new slew of Cowgirls and Cowboys to tame the West.

Happy Birthday Pasadena . . . Lights, Camera, Action!

Pasadena Museum of History Celebration

Lewis Events was recently invited to participate in the City of Pasadena’s 138th birthday celebration held at the Pasadena Museum of History. The special occasion was hosted in conjunction with their new exhibition entitled, “LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! Hollywood Magic in Pasadena“, “which highlights the city’s intrinsic role in the multidimensional world of filmmaking”. Guests were welcomed with a movie premier grand entrance and snapped pictures in a movie-making photo vignette.

Key areas of the museum property featured iconic scenes from popular blockbuster films accompanied by costumed characters. A replica, “Back to the Future” time machine Delorean was also spotlighted.

Theater snack stand vignette

The Fényes Mansion served as a beautiful background for the theater-style snack bar, DJ, and featured entertainment. Each hour dances from popular films were performed and taught to the willing audience. Dances included Hand Jive, Thriller, Wednesday Adams, Footloose, and the entire YMCA routine.

Christy served as MC for the formal portion of the program and led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday Pasadena”, with Pasadena’s Mayor Victor M. Gordo performing the honorary cake cutting.

Wizard of Oz scene

Pasadena locations have been featured in films including Father of the Bride, The Sting, La La Land, and Back to the Future. We enjoyed bringing the silver screen alive for Pasadena and hope for another amazing 138 years!

Party Till The Cows Come Home

Nothing like having a western party in a milking barn.  Our bovine friends were polite, quiet, did not eat too much and had a very positive attitude as long as they got their turn on the milking machine.Lewis Events was proud to be part of a company party held in the Millenial Barn located at the Orange County Fairgrounds.  It’s an ideal location for a western theme party, offering a perfect country atmosphere . . . . cows included.

The guests enjoyed a variety of interesting activities including gold panning, cowboy games, line dancing, great food and lively music.

Right in the middle of the party festivities, the cows filed in and in an orderly fashion, took their place at the milking machine.  It wasn’t long before the guests took notice and crowded to see the milking take place.  I must admit this was an interesting first for Lewis Events and definitely added another dimension to the event.

Emily came away from the experience with some new friends.
